The first part of each episode, titled Beta Project, is set in the present day and follows Yeo Jin Gu as college student Kim Woo Jin.

Jung Yeon, whose friend also committed suicide, teams up with Woo Jin to find out the truth behind the suicide cases.
Woo Jin meets classmate Han Jung Yeon (Gong Seung Yeon), who bears an uncanny resemblance to the alien the brothers met as children. In the present day, university student Woo Jin (Yeo Jin Gu) becomes linked to a series of suicides related to his twin brother Bum Gyun (An Woo Yun), a UFO conspiracy theorist who was sent to a psychiatric hospital after their father's disappearance. The two leading actors play brothers living in two separate realities in the two-part drama, which is composed of "Beta Project" and "The Beautiful New World."
